Hebridean Celtic Festival @ Breasclete
Concert & Ceilidh Dance
Wednesday, 15th July 2009, 7.30pm
Fred Morrison Trio
Ask any young Scottish piper to name their musical heroes, and it’s odds-on that Fred Morrison will rank high on the list. Ask their counterparts in Brittany, Galicia, Asturias, Cape Breton and other bastions of the bagpipe world, and he’ll be cited almost as often.
A record-breaking champion on the international competitive piping circuit, he has also featured in the seminal Scottish bands Clan Alba and Capercaillie, and since focusing on his solo career has affirmed his place among Celtic music’s most profoundly skilled and audaciously inventive exponents.
Fred maintains a busy touring schedule, having settled into working with a hand-picked pool of leading instrumentalists. He is accompanied at the festival this year by Martin O’Neill (bodhran/percussion) and Ed Boyd (guitar), each fabulous musicians who tour regularly with bands such as Michael McGoldrick, Flook, Box Club and Dòchas.
The concert will be followed in usual style by a dance to be led by Deoch an Dorus. Formed in 2001 when they met on the RSAMD traditional music course in Glasgow, their musical styles and interests gelled instantly and they have gone on to become great favourites on the ceilidh and festival scene. With a line up featuring Simon Moran (fiddle), Stuart Cameron (accordion), Andrew MacPherson (drums/percussion) joined by Donald Livingstone (vocals, guitar) for the festival, this lively outfit are sure to get any dance going.
