Library & Internet

A successful Open Day on Saturday 21st October 2006 launched The Library & Internet within the community centre, which was initiated by a request from Callanish Women for Mission to display a few books, and then developed into this new library. Among the welcomed visitors were Bob Eaves (Stornoway Librarian) and his wife Margaret, plus many others from Kirivick to Callanish.

A very generous donation from Cathie Mary MacIver (Breasclete) in memory of her Father - Artair a' Phaddy - enabled the association to access grants from Community Initiated Projects (C.N.E.S.) and Western Isles Enterprise to provide a wonderful new addition to the centre for the whole community to enjoy.

There are presently over 1000 books on offer (with new books each month) and it is hoped the range of books available will appeal to everybody - if not, be sure to let us know! We will be happy to receive donations of any books in good condition to add to our stock. To see the list of both non-fiction and fiction books and DVDs available, please contact us.

For public use we have two new computers (complete with great sound systems) and two laptops with full internet access for adults; a dedicated computer with all the appropriate security shields for younger people, and also available are two scanners and two printers.

The current band of volunteers - Isabell MacKenzie, Chris Stubbington, Noreen MacDonald, John Monaghan and Gordon Paterson - will provide the rota for the opening hours:-

Informal computer training available every Wednesday afternoon.

We look forward to seeing you in the New Library making full use of all the facilities now available.
